Islamabad, Viral Sach (Bureau) : A spate of militant assaults across Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province has left six soldiers dead and triggered intense security operations, underscoring the escalating insurgency in the region.
The deadliest incident occurred late Sunday night in Gwadar’s New Town area, where an improvised explosive device (IED) obliterated a military vehicle, killing all six soldiers on board. Eyewitnesses said the blast was powerful enough to destroy the vehicle completely, with debris cleared from the scene by Monday morning. No group has yet claimed responsibility, and officials have not released an official statement. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area.
Coordinated Militant Strikes
In a separate set of attacks, armed fighters launched simultaneous raids on military encampments in Maheer and Soro in the Mand area of Kech district, unleashing heavy gunfire and multiple explosions.
Hours earlier, militants stormed a Levies checkpoint on a main road in Zhawo, Awaran district, seizing weapons from security personnel before setting the post ablaze. In nearby Zhawo Nandra, another military outpost came under attack, with reports that a quadcopter drone used by the army was shot down.
Further violence erupted in Basima, Washuk district, where residents reported more than 14 explosions and sustained gunfire for over 30 minutes near a central military camp late Monday night. Casualty figures from these incidents remain unconfirmed.
Ongoing Security Operations
In Khuzdar district’s Jhehri area, including Bulbul, Tarasani, and Gajan, security forces are pressing ahead with military operations. Local sources report exchanges of fire between troops and insurgents, with helicopter gunships sweeping over the contested zones.
The violence marks one of the most widespread escalations in recent months, highlighting the resilience of Baloch militant groups and the mounting challenge facing Pakistan’s armed forces in re‑establishing control. Authorities say operations will continue until the threat is neutralised.
