The earthquake, which hit at 10:38 a.m. on Friday, caused significant alarm and chaos as residents fled shaking buildings. The epicenter was located in Madhabdi, within the Narsingdi district, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. While the tremor was classified as moderate, the resulting panic in densely populated areas led to tragic consequences.Fatalities were reported in several districts, with five deaths in Narsingdi, four in the capital, Dhaka, and one in Narayanganj.
In one incident in Dhaka’s Armanitola area, three people were killed when a building’s roof railing collapsed. In Narayanganj, a 10-month-old baby was tragically killed when a wall collapsed.
Interim government Health Advisor Nurjahan Begum confirmed that many of the injuries were a direct result of the panic during the quake.
