Delhi, Viral Sach (H.S.) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a traditional dinner hosted by Trinidad & Tobago’s Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, where he was served food on a Sohari leaf, significant to Trinidad’s Indian heritage.
In a post on X, PM said;
“The dinner hosted by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had food served on a Sohari leaf, which is of great cultural significance to the people of Trinidad & Tobago, especially those with Indian roots. Here, food is often served on this leaf during festivals and other special programmes.”
During a dinner in Port of Spain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Trinidadian singer Rana Mohip, who performed ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ at Gandhi’s 150th Jayanti, praised for his love of Indian music and culture.
In a seperate Post on X,PM Modi wrote,
“At the dinner in Port of Spain, met Mr. Rana Mohip, who had sung ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ when we marked the 150th Jayanti of Mahatma Gandhi a few years ago. His passion towards Indian music and culture is appreciable.”
Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian diaspora in Trinidad and Tobago, celebrating 180 years of Indian immigration. He received “The Order of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago” and emphasized India-Trinidad ties. PM Modi praised the Indian diaspora for preserving cultural traditions and announced OCI cards for sixth-generation Indians.
PM Modi discussed India’s progress in various sectors, including lifting 250 million people from extreme poverty, and projected India as a top-three global economy. He mentioned the success of UPI digital payments and expressed hopes for its adoption in Trinidad.
Celebrating the return of Ram Lalla to Ayodhya, he honored the diaspora’s contributions with a replica temple and holy water from the Sarayu. Modi recognized the diaspora as ‘Rashtradoot’ and announced initiatives for the Girmitiya community.
Over 4,000 attendees celebrated cultural heritage, reaffirming their connection to India. PM Persad-Bissessar praised Modi’s modernization efforts in India as he embarked on a historic five-nation tour.
